Severe Restriction imposed on traveling of Rohingya within the state

By Coordinating Committee

Mr. Habibur Rahman, President of the National Democratic Party for Human Rights (NDPHR), exile, South East Asia Regional Office in Malaysia, who is languishing 21 months in Australian detention said early this September 18 Rohingyas involving women and children were arrested in Pathien port of Irrawaddy division on their traveling to Rangoon from Akyab/Akyab city of Arakan/Rakhine state.

All of them were sent back to Akyab (Sittwe) from Pathein by ship. Firstly they were detained 2 days in police lock-up and released by payment after their relatives proved they are natives of Akyab (Sittwe). However two days later of released, all of them were picked up again by authorities led by Military Intelligence forces.

Despite their relatives residing in Rangoon had tried to rescue by corporation with high ranking authority by spending about one million Kyats, Akyab (Sittwe) Court sentenced them up to two and half years to seven years. I was told not to report when they are trying to negotiate with authority to get release of them.

In early July 2011, another group 38 Rohingyans mostly from (Akyab) Sittwe and a few from Kyauktaw Township were arrested by military forces in Ann township when they traveling to Rangoon. One of them was my cousin brother Abdulllah from Akyab (Sittwe). Recent contact with his mother confirmed that they been gone to missing, possibly killed.

In Yunan state of China, authority's raiding over Burmese people have been recently increased. About 200 Burmese mostly Muslims were arrested during the past two months. Generally, most of arrestees were handed over directly to Burmese authority in border regions and a few lucky were passed to border armed groups. Again, Burmese authority sent them for force labor in rail way constructions.

My brother who is living in Burma China border since 2008 was gone missing after arrested by police. Today his friend said over the phone that he was possibly taken to force labor purposes.
